This traditional Australian ranch house is located in Macarthur, one of the most historic areas of the country, about one hour south of Sydney by car. The community's main attraction is the farm of early settlers John and Elizabeth Macarthur, which dates to 1805 and comprises the oldest surviving collection of farm buildings in Australia. The farmhouse from that time no longer exists; the main house now is a Georgian manor built in 1820. This three-bedroom home was built in the 1930s, however, and sits on about 110 acres of gently undulating countryside used for raising sheep. The open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge room features French doors that open to a deck and a fully enclosed, well-tended rear garden. The kitchen has a gas cook top, built-in oven and walk-in pantry. The house also has a wide central hallway that leads off the front foyer to the bedrooms. The property is subdivided into 10 fenced paddocks, currently home to 350 ewes expected to produce about 500 prime lambs this year. In addition to a two-room guest cottage, outbuildings include a truck shed with a reinforced concrete floor and sliding doors, an attached hayloft and storage shed, two timber sheds for wool storage, a shearing shed, a stable, and a three-car garage with attached workshop. As with many Australian rural properties, this one is being sold by auction, agent Zan Douglass of Elders Ltd. says, adding, "Offers above $600,000 would be considered." Price: starting at $600,000 (Australian), or about $520,000. Canadian. I have never even vacationed there but this property makes me want to! |
